Take a screenshot on your computer or mobile device

Need to capture an image of your computer or mobile device's screen? Here's how to grab a screenshot on these operating systems.

Windows

  1. Press the Print Screen key.
  2. Open Microsoft Paint by clicking the Windows Start button | All Programs | AccessoriesPaint.
  3. Press Ctrl + V.
    Note: If an "image in the clipboard is larger than the bitmap" prompt appears, click Yes.
  4. Press Ctrl + S.
    - A "Save As" window appears
  5. Enter a description of the image in the "File Name" field.
  6. Click Save.
    - The file is saved to your chosen folder.

Mac OS X

  1. Press Command + Shift + 3.
  2. A new file named "Untitled.png" is created on your desktop.

iOS

  1. Press and hold the Home button and Sleep button at the same time.
    - The screen flashes white and you may hear a camera shutter sound.
  2. Confirm the screenshot was successful:
    1. Press the Home button.
    2. Tap Photos.
    3. Tap Camera Roll.
      - Your screenshot should appear in the list.

Android

Devices with Android 4.0+

  1. Press and hold the power button and volume down button for about 1 second.
    - An animation displays, indicating that the screenshot was saved.
  2. Check that the screenshot was successfully saved:
    1. Press the Home button.
    2. Tap Apps.
    3. Tap Gallery.
      - A saved screenshot will be available in the gallery.

Other Android versions

Depending which Android version you have, capture a screenshot with one of these actions:

  • Press and hold the Home button and sleep button for about 1 second.
  • Press and hold the Home button and volume down button for about 1 second.
  • Press and hold the Home button and power button for about 1 second.
  • Swipe left across your device's screen.
