Questions and issues using Yahoo7 Account Key

Yahoo7 Account Key should make your life easier, but some issues can keep the process from running smoothly. Whether you lost your phone or your apps aren't working, follow these instructions to help fix these problems.

You don't have your phone on you or you forgot your password after turning off Account Key

You have a new phone and still have access to your old phone

On your new phone:

  1. Get the same Yahoo7 app that you were using on your old phone for your Account Key notifications.
  2. Open the app and tap Sign in.
  3. On the sign-in page, enter your username and tap Continue.
    - The next page says it's waiting for you to approve a notification sent to the old phone.
  4. On your old phone, view the Account Key code.
  5. On your new phone, confirm the code from the list displayed then tap Sign in.

Your new phone is ready to receive Account Key notifications!

Not planning to use the old phone again? - Sign out of your account from the Yahoo7 app that you were using on the old phone then go to the phone’s settings to erase and reset the phone.

You have a new phone but do NOT have access to your old phone

Use a desktop computer to send the Account Key to your alternate email

  2. You'll see your alternate email address under “Do you have access to this email?”
  3. If the email is correct, click Yes, send me an Account Key.

If you don't have access to the alternate email use Sign-in Helper to access the account.

You get a new phone number

If you get a new phone number, but keep using the same phone, follow the steps below.

Your 3rd party apps stop working

Some 3rd party apps, such as iOS Mail, Android Mail, and Outlook, don't work with Yahoo7 Account Key enabled. To use these apps, you'll need to generate app passwords for them.

You never receive an Account Key sign-in notification

Still not getting a sign-in notification? Try this:

  1. Go to the Yahoo7 sign-in page.
  2. Enter in your Yahoo7 email address | Click Next.
  3. Click Use text or email to sign in.
  4. Enter the missing digits of your phone number | Click Submit.
  5. If you have access to this phone, click Yes, text me an Account Key.
    - Don't have access? You'll get the option to verify your alternate email address instead.
  6. You'll be prompted to either tap or enter a verification code to confirm.
  7. Click Continue to access your account.

Success, you're back in!

You want to turn off Account Key

You want to use 2-step verification with Account Key

Unfortunately, you can't. Account Key is similar to traditional two-step verification, but there's no memorized password. If you want to be extra cautious, you can turn off Account Key and turn on two-step verification instead.

You get the "Uh-oh" error message when using Account Key after signing out of your mobile app.

You must wait 24 hours before trying to sign in because you exceeded the number of text messages allowed per day from Sign In Helper. The first time you sign in to Yahoo7 the next day, use your Account Key enabled Yahoo7 app on your mobile phone.
